Assam CM kneels before 90-year-woman, patiently listens to her grievances, assures help


Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma received a special petitioner on Friday. A 90-year-old woman from Dergaon met the Assam CM at Kaziranga over an issue related to her son. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma showed the old woman all respect and care as he assured her of government support.

A video shared by Assam CMO captured the heartwarming incident. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is seen going down on his haunches as he warmly greets the 90-year-old woman.

Clasping her hand in his, the Assam CM queried about the elderly woman’s health and asked if she is eating properly and if she is facing any issue. When the woman replied that she can’t eat food from outside, the chief minister asked someone to arrange fruits for the old woman.

The old woman met the Assam CM over some pending work. In response, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asked officials to find out about the matter and assured her of his help.

After giving her assurance that he will personally look into the matter, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asked for the old woman’s phone number and urged her to go home.

When the 90-year-old shared that she was from Dergaon, the chief minister promised to visit her whenever he goes there next.

Afterward, CM Himanta Biswa shared images from the meeting.

He tweeted, “How divine it feels to have the blessings from 90-year-old grandmother at Kaziranga today. She had very kindly come to see me from Dergaon regarding a personal issue related to her son. Assured her of all support from government in resolution of the problem.”
