Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday condoled the death of five members of a Bihu husori group who tragically died late Saturday night following a road accident at the national highway 15 in Biswanath district.

Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Deeply pained by the loss of 5 young lives in an unfortunate road accident at Biswanath last night. My condolences to the bereaved families of Sanjay Basumatary (17), Koliman Basumatary (21), Bornali Boro (15), Budhimoti Boro (14) and Radhika Daimary (15). “

“The victims were on their way home from a Bihu function. Five injured have been shifted to Gohpur Civil Hospital & Catholic Hospital at Borgang. Have asked the administration to monitor the situation and provide the injured all necessary help. I pray for their speedy recovery”, added CM Sarma.

Notably, five members of a Bihu husori group were killed in a tragic accident at the national highway 15 in Biswanath district of Assam late Saturday night.

The incident occurred at the Tokobari under Helem Police station.

A Bihu troupe comprising around 20 boys and girls, most of them teenagers who were residents of North Karibeel in Kosarigaon village, had gone to perform Husori at Rangajan in Gohpur.

They were returning late at night when the accident took place. The driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of the vehicle while maneuvering a sharp bend following which the vehicle overturned.

Five members of the group — two boys and three were girls — were killed on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Radhika Daimary, Buddhimoti Boro, Bornali Boro, Sanjay Basumatary and Kalimon Basumatary.

The driver, however, managed to jump out of the vehicle after it turned turtle.
