Assam Chess Club to organise Guwahati India Open Online International Chess Tournament 2020

Guwahati: Assam Chess Club a unit of Guwahati based sports promotion NGO Akshayam is all set to organize the 4th GUWAHATI INDIA OPEN ONLINE INTERNATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT 2020 with a total prize fund of Rs 10,00,000/- (Ten lakhs) at Guwahati from 25th to 27th December 2020 celebrating the birthday of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the legendary former Prime Minister of India.

The tournament is one of the biggest chess events organized in India every year and the biggest chess tournament in Northeast India. The tournament is expected to attract about 1500 participants from across the world.  

 The tournament which is an annual event organized by Assam Chess Club has to be organized online this year keeping in view the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
There will be a total of 5 categories in the tournament- Category A (Grandmaster Open), Category B (Below Rating 2000), Category C  (Below Rating 1600) Category D  (Open Bullet) Category E (Rapid) and is open to all players of the world. The event will be played on the popular chess server lichess.org and will be broadcasted live worldwide. 

The tournament will be officiated by International Arbiter VL Anandth Babu of Tamil Nadu as the Chief Arbiter along with Swaraj Buragohain, Padma Gogoi, Lakhyajyoti Saikia and Aditya Gogoi as deputy Arbiter. Assam’s first and only International Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj has been appointed as the Tournament Director of the event.
