Assam celebrates Eid-Ul-Fitr in a grand way after two years

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: After two years under the shadow of pandemic, along with the rest of the country Assam is observing the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in a grand way today  without Covid-19 curbs.

After the completion of Roja or fasting on Ramzaan on Monday, followers of Islam across the state are celebrating Eid with much gaiety. Community namaaz has been organized in several idgahs and mosques of the state.

In a welcome sight for traders, markets too witnessed a heavy footfall of customers in the past few days for eid festivities.

The skyrocketing prices of food, fuel, LPG and also of apparel could not dampen the spirit of the festival as people thronged the markets and shopping malls after a two-year hiatus from the pandemic. Fancy Bazar, the business hub of the state, was flooded with shoppers on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

It may be mentioned here that Eid celebrations were held in a low-key affair in the last two years owing to Covid pandemic. However, with the situation fairly improving this time around, people will be observing Eid without strict restrictions.
