Assam: Cattle smuggler Mozammil injured in police firing during escape bid

GUWAHATI: A notorious cattle smuggler was seriously injured in Assam Police firing while trying to escape custody in Barpeta district on Wednesday night.

The smuggler named Mozammil Haque was injured while he tried to attack police to escape from the custody. Haque surrendered before Barpeta Police on Tuesday. He was under Howly police custody for 10 days. The accused was immediately sent to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta.

in connection with cattle smuggling tried to to use force and escape from lawful custody. The police had to use fire arms to prevent escape. He has been grievously injured and shifted to hospital,” tweeted special DGP GP Singh.

It may be noted that in a separate gunfight with police, one wanted criminal Bubu Konwar was killed at Geleky in Sivasagar district on Wednesday night. The 43-year-old man was named in multiple serious crimes including murder and car theft.

“The said Bubu Konwar succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at Geleky Civil Hospital,” GP Singh stated in a tweet.

One pistol was recovered from his possession.
