Assam: Cachar Police arrests two persons, seizes contraband items worth Rs 20 crore in joint operation

In a joint operation, Cachar district police of Assam and CISF on Thursday seized 4 kg of Methamphetamine worth Rs 20 crore at Kumbhirgram Airport, Silchar in Cachar district and arrested two persons.

Based on secret information, Cachar district police and CISF conducted an operation against drug peddlers at Kumbhirgram Airport, Silchar and recovered 4 packets containing 4 kg of Methamphetamine.

The arrested persons were identified as Joseph Lalnunmawia (22 years old) and F Lalhmangaihzuala (30 years old).

Subrata Sen, Additional Superintendent of Police of Cachar district said that, Cachar district police and CISF had jointly launched operation and recovered and seized the drugs worth Rs 20 in possession of two persons who are hailing from Mizoram.

“We received information that, a consignment of large quantity of contraband drugs will go to outside of the state through Cachar district and accordingly we had jointly launched an operation with CISF and recovered & seized 4 kg of Methamphetamine from the luggages of two persons at Kumbhirgram Airport, Silchar,” the senior police official said.

He further said that, according to their boarding passes, they were supposed to travel to Kolkata from Silchar and they were attempting to transport the narcotics to other location.

Further police investigation is on.
