Assam: Cachar Police arrests two ABSYO members for Defacing Assamese Hoardings In Silchar

Guwahati: Cachar Police has arrested 2 members of the All Bengali Students Youth Organisation (ABSYO) for their involvement in defacing government hoardings in the Assamese language.

Multiple hoardings carrying government advertisements in Assamese language were  recently defaced by the members of Barak Democratic Youth Front (BDYF) and All Bengali Students Youth Organisation (ABSYO) with black ink in Silchar in Silchar. 

The ABSYO members, who were arrested on Tuesday, have been identified as Raju Deb and Samar Das.

The incident has attracted severe criticism from all sections in both Brahmaputra and Barak Valley. Several Organisation across the state demanded action against those involved in the act.

Speaking to the media Cachar superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur said that both the youth activists were arrested in the evening on Tuesday and the investigation is still going on.

On Tuesday,  Pradip Dutta Roy, the founder of Barak Democratic Front, was summoned by the Cachar superintendent of police.

The Cachar police chief quizzed him for two hours after which he released a statement mentioning the banner was smeared with black ink before they reached the spot, adding that they do not know who did it.
