Assam Cabinet approves setting up of Open space zoo in Silchar

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to set up an open space zoo at Silchar in Cachar district.

The development was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after the Cabinet meeting held at Haflong in Dima Hasao district on Wednesday (January 19).

The aim of the second zoo in the state will be to protect wildlife.

The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday approved Rs 214.54 crore for setting up of Cachar Wildlife Safari cum Zoo at Dholai in Cachar district.

The Chief Minister said that the zoo will be an open space, where animals will be able to move freely and they will not be confined to walls or small enclosures.

People visiting the zoo will have to take safari rides or other vehicles to watch the animals.

The area proposed for the zoo will be around 200 hectares and the zoo will be set up without destroying the flora around the area.
