Assam: Buses resume service with 100% passengers

GUWAHATI: After the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) withdrew its indefinite ‘Chakka Bandh’, the buses, trekkers and other vehicles started to ply with 100 per cent passengers from today. City buses in Guwahati also resumed their services.

Though the vehicles have been allowed to carry 100 per cent passengers, no standing passenger will be allowed to travel as per the guidelines issued by the Assam health department.

The AAMTA called for an indefinite strike from October 5 demanding hike in fares. However, they called off the strike after the government had allowed to carry 100 per cent passengers.

“We heave a sigh of relief today. The past few days were really difficult,” said a passenger in Guwahati.

“It is a good decision. We don’t welcome any hike in fares,” said another passenger.

On the other hand, some passengers also expressed concern over COVID-19 pandemic.a
