Assam: BJP clean sweeps Tiwa Autonomous Council Election in Assam

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has tasted massive victory in the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) election in Assam by getting absolute majority in the 36-member council. The BJP has got 34 seats in the TAC which covers parts of Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro) districts.

After the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, Congress has faced another debacle in the Tiwa Autonomous Council. The grand old party managed to get only one seat. Congress won 15 seats in the last council election in 2015.

On the other hand, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has claimed victory in the lone seat it had contested.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all the voters under Tiwa Autonomous Council for giving us the opportunity to serve them,” said state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass after the massive mandate in favour of his party.

“Congress is nowhere. We will get all the seats in middle Assam in 2021 assembly election. Congress is an orchestra party now. Ripun Bora should realise it,” said state minister for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika.

On the other hand, the people of the TAC expressed hope that with the BJP coming power in the council, they will be able to get the benefits of the government schemes without any discrepancy.
