Assam bids farewell to Homen Borgohain, laid to rest with state honours

GUWAHATI: Eminent Assamese writer and renowned journalist Homen Borgohain was cremated with full state honours at Nabagraha cremation grounds in Guwahati on Wednesday. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was himself present at Nabagraha along with other ministers and officials.

Borgohain’s mortal remains were first taken to Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra where people from all walks of life offered prayers and condolences. Then the mortal remains were taken to his office at Niyomiya Barta and former workplace Amar Asom (GL Publications) before being taken for the final journey. Colleagues, followers, well-wishers and general public paid their last respect to the ever-energetic ‘Borgohain Sir’.

Homen Borgohain was the former president of Asom Sahitya Sabha and a Sahitya Academy Award winning writer. Borgohain was the editor in chief of popular Assamese daily newspaper Niyomiya Barta since 2014.
