Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday evening officially announced Bhubaneswar Kalita as their first candidate for Assam’s Rajya Sabha election.
Last year, on August 5, Bhubaneswar Kalita had resigned from the Congress party citing the party is opposed to national interest and is paving its own way for destruction. Later, he joined BJP on 9 August 2019.
Apart from Kalita, the BJP on Wednesday named Jyotiraditya Scindia as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh.
The BJP also announced the names of its candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Manipur, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Bhubaneswar Kalita became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2008 from Congress and was re-elected in 2014.
