Assam: Baby elephant separated from herd dies at a tea garden in Biswanath

Guwahati: An elephant calf that strayed from its herd died after the it fell in a gorge at a tea garden in Assam’s Biswanath district.

According to reports, a herd of about 50 elephants entered Monabari tea estate in Biswanath district on Thursday.

The elephant herd came from Kaziranga National Park and had entered into the tea estate. A baby elephant was separated from the herd and it fell into a gorge in the tea garden.

Locals found the injured baby elephant and immediately informed forest officials. Later, a veterinary doctor team and forest officials rushed to the spot and provided medical treatment to the elephant calf.

However, the baby elephant succumbed to his injuries.

A forest official of Biswanath district said, “When we reached the spot, the baby elephant was alive. But two hours later it died,” the forest official said.
