Assam: AK-56, several hundred rounds of live ammunition seized in Udalguri

In a significant operation, the Udalguri Police seized an illegal assault rifle and a substantial cache of live ammunition on Monday, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

The operation, which has been hailed as a major success, was led by Udalguri Superintendent of Police Pushkin Jain and carried out in Shantipur near Gauribari.

The seizure included an AK-56 assault rifle, a magazine, and 668 rounds of live ammunition. 

Praising the police team, Assam director general of police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh wrote on X, “One AK Series Rifle, 668 rounds ammunition & a magazine recovered in Udalguri. Two persons arrested.”

Pushkin Jain, SP of Udalguri sharing details said, “We received inputs that few persons were trying to sell arms illegally. Immediately our team arrested one person. During interrogation the person revealed that the arms and ammunition are kept hidden. Accordingly, our team recovered the arms and ammunition from the hideout. have been recovered. 2 persons have been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.”
