GUWAHATI: The state convention of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) will be held on December 16 and 17 at Sivasagar. The political convention will be held at Sivasagar Boarding Field where the  party will manifest itself as a full-fledged political entity.

Former general secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Lurinjyoti Gogoi is likely to join the AJP during this convention.

The party has started the all-around preparations for the convention. Several organisations including newly-floated political party Raijor Dal have been invited for this event.

“The party will get a full-fledged form at this convention. The historic Boarding Filed has been finalised as the venue of the convention. The executive meeting will be held at the Natya Mandir. We have sought suggestions from various organisations,” said AJP leader Chittaranjan Basumatary.

Chittaranjan Basumatary on Lurinjyoti Gogoi:

While asked about the joining of former AASU leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Basumatary said, “Lurinjyoti Gogoi is a powerful regional leader. We have appealed him to join the AJP. He will definitely give us the final decision on December 16 or 17.”

AASU bids farewell to Lurinjyoti Gogoi:

Former general secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Lurinjyoti Gogoi who has resigned from the student body at recently-concluded Duliajan session was given a formal farewell by the AASU at Gauhati University on Thursday.

“I will carry forward this uncompromising attitude and self-esteem of an Assamese,” said an emotional Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

“I am stepping forward towards a thorny path. Escapist attitude to avoid challenges is not the characteristic of a real fighter,” he added.

On the other hand, AASU chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya extended his best wishes to Gogoi.

“I congratulate Lurinjyoti Gogoi and extend my best wishes,” said Bhattacharjya.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi resigned from the AASU at the 17th session of the state’s largest student organisation at Duliajan in Dibrugarh district from November 18 to 21.
