Assam: AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam’s bail plea rejected, sent to CID’s custody

GUWAHATI: Nagaon District and Session Judge Court rejected bail plea of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam on Saturday. The AIUDF legislator from Assam’s Dhing constituency was arrested on April 7 for a communal audio clip with intention to spread misinformation about COVID-19.

The court has sent Islam to the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police till April 21.

The AIUDF MLA sparked controversy when an audio clip with some of his controversial remarks went viral on Social Media. He alleged that the quarantine centres in Assam are akin to detention centres for foreigners. He also allegedly said that no one attending the Tablighi Jamaat was infected with COVID-19 and it was just a conspiracy against a particular community. “No person who attended the religious meeting suffered from any disease and alleged that it is grave conspiracy to keep these persons in detention camp,” he said.
