Assam aims to vaccinate one lakh daily from Friday

GUWAHATI: The Assam Health Department has set a target of vaccinating one lakh people every day against COVID19. The department has fixed the daily doses for all the districts. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Thursday through a video meet directed the designated district officials to intensify the vaccination drive in their respective districts from Friday.

Mahanta mentioned that there is sufficient quantity of vaccines with the health department to speed up the process. He instructed the designated officials to create awareness among the people of the districts two days ahead of the drive in and around the locations where the vaccination will take place.

Additionally, those patients who are released from hospitals and are recovering from COVID19 must be kept under observation for another seven days, said the health minister.

On Thursday, 3,477 people tested COVID19 positive in Assam. The death toll reached 4,105 with 41 fatalities reported. Jorhat reported the highest number of deaths with 9 patients succumbing to COVID19 related complications. Assam, at present has 36,793 active COVID19 cases with the highest number of cases coming from Sonitpur where 338 were found to be positive. On Thursday, Assam conducted 1,54,264 COVID19 tests and the daily positivity rate stands at 2.25 percent. The good news for the day — 4,949 patients were discharged after showing signs of recovery.
