Assam: About Rs 80 Lakh cash seized from executive engineer’s Guwahati residence

In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam apprehended Jayanta Goswami, Executive Engineer (PHE) at the Office of the Superintending Engineer (PHE), North Lakhimpur Circle.

Goswami was apprehended after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a complainant at Hengrabari, Guwahati, purportedly in exchange for expediting bill payments.

Following the apprehension, a search was conducted at Goswami’s residence in Hengrabari, Guwahati, yielding a staggering discovery.

Authorities seized a substantial sum of cash totaling ₹79,87,500.

Assam Police, in a tweet, humorously remarked, “Looks like there was a lot more in Sri Goswami’s ‘pipeline’ than just water!”

However, this operation underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption and uphold the principles of transparency and integrity within governmental institutions.

The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, remains committed to rooting out corrupt practices and ensuring accountability at all levels.
