GUWAHATI: Though the number of COVID-19 patients in Assam has been rising, the state has maintained an impressive recovery rate. On Sunday, 690 more COVID-19 patients were discharged in Assam, stated health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet.

So far, Assam has reported total 11001 COVID-19 cases. Among them, 7433 patients have been discharged from hospitals after their recovery. Currently, there are 3551 active cases in the state.

On Saturday, with 1202 COVID-19 cases, Assam saw the highest single-day spike. Among these new cases, 777 cases were found in Guwahati alone.

The Assam government re-imposed lockdown in Guwahati from June 28 to July 12 as COVID-19 cases have been spurting in the city. The authorities have left no stone unturned to enforce total lockdown to its letter and spirit.

“This time, people have been observing lockdown with more sincerity. I request everyone not to rush for grocery shops as they will remain open from Monday to Friday,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at a press meet in Guwahati on Sunday.
