GUWAHATI: Assam has been getting ready for the incoming flight passengers from Monday amid COVID-19 concerns. Addressing a press meet in Guwahati Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 2000 people are likely to land in Guwahati by 30 flights though the exact number is not ascertained yet.

“We expect around 4500 travellers coming by flight to North East of which around 2000 will land in Assam. We are not aware who is coming. We don’t know how many are coming as flight manifest is given only 4 hours before departure,” said Dr. Sarma.

He said that it will take 24 hours to complete the screening process of 1500-2000 people.

Dr. Sarma stated that the middle seat in the flights will not be empty. The passengers will have face masks and shields.

“Since the social distancing will be minimum, so we are not taking any chances. We will quarantine everyone barring a few exceptions,” said minister Sarma.

He also urged the incoming people to schedule in such a way that they reach Assam in a phased manner.

“Flights will keep coming. So one should not hurry,” Dr. Sarma added.
