Another Prime accused in Batadrava Police Station arson case held

In a major breakthrough, the Nagaon police arrested another key accused in the sensational Batadrava police station arson case on Tuesday.

The accused identified as Shafiqul Islam, who was absconding for a long time, allegedly ransacked the premises of Batadrava police station and helped prime accused Majida Khatun to set it on fire.

During a coordinated operation by the Nagaon and Morigaon district police, Shafiqul Islam was arrested after raiding a brick kiln owned by one Akash Ali of the Moirabari area in Morigaon District.

According to reports, the Nagaon police have already been able to arrest only 13 of the total 25 accused who were accused in the Batadrava police station arson case on May 21, 2022. Also, one of the main accused, Asiqul Islam, died after being hit by a car while trying to escape from police custody.

It may also be mentioned that a month back, Assam police had submitted a charge sheet in the Batadrava police station arson case. The Nagaon police who were probing the case have named at least 24 people including two juveniles.

On May 21, Batadrava police station was set on fire by an irate mob over an alleged custodial death of a local fish trader, Safikul Islam (39), who was picked up by police the previous night.
