Massive anger and outrage across eastern Assam after two miscreants posing as ULFA (I) militants shot dead two persons at Rupai Siding under Doomdooma police station in Tinsukia district Friday night. All shops and businesses downed their shutters in protest against last night’s incident.

Two youths who came on a motorcycle, one of them waiting outside and the second entering the grocery shop owned by a person named Ananda Agarwalla, demanded Rs 3 lakh extortion money in the name of ULFA (I), the anti-talks ULFA faction led by Paresh Baruah.

The gunman then shot at Jeet Verma, an employee of the grocery shop, when he tried to overpower the armed miscreant who later succumbed to his injuries. Another person, a customer who was later identified as Ramakanta Deuri, also died after suffering bullet wounds.

Meanwhile, the entire incident was caught on the close circuit camera installed at the grocery shop.
