Amit Shah pays tributes to Chilarai, tweets in Assamese

GUWAHATI: In a tweet written in Assamese, union home minister Amit Shah paid tributes to Koch general Chilarai on his birth anniversary.

Shah stated that Chilarai’s bravery, indomitable courage and unparalleled love for the nation will show ways to the people of Assam and the country. 

“I pay obeisance to Mahabir Chilarai on Punya Jayanti….” Shah wrote.

Earlier, prime minister Narendra Modi also recalled the 16th century warrior on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

The prime minister said that Bir Chilarai is synonymous with valour and patriotism.

“The great Bir Chilarai is synonymous with valour and patriotism. He was an outstanding warrior, who fought for people and the principles he held sacred. His bravery will continue to motivate the coming generations. Remembering him on his Jayanti,” PM Modi tweeted.

Sukhladhwaj, the general of Koch Army during the rule of his brother Nara Narayan earned the epithet of Chilarai (swift as a kite) for his valour and dexterity.

Chilarai also made immense contributions in the fields of culture and religion of the region.
