AIUDF demands Dalgaon seat which Congress has been winning since 2006

GUWAHATI: The alliance between Congress and Maulana Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Assam is fresh but it seems the honeymoon period is about to end. There have been confirmed reports of internal conflicts between the two parties regarding seat-sharing for the coming Assam Assembly Elections 2021.

It seems AIUDF is eyeing the Congress-occupied Dalgaon constituency and has been putting pressure on the grand old party to give it to the AIUDF to contest. Dalgaon has been a traditional stronghold of the Congress and is represented by Illias Ali since 2006. The Congress has managed to win the Dalgaon seat for past three times, but this time, the AIUDF wants this seat.

The development came to light recently after AIUDF MLA from Jania, Rafiqul Islam said that Dalgaon is among the top constituencies on their list. He said that as Congress is their big brother now and they (AIUDF), being the younger brother will ask for the Dalgaon seat. The Congress will offer us the Dalgaon seat out of love, said Rafiqul Islam who was speaking at a meeting in Dalgaon.

AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal who joined the Mahila Morcha (Women wing) meeting from Mumbai through a video call even named Majibur Rahman as their contestant from Dalgaon.

It seems the AIUDF is taking an aggressive stance when it comes to seat-sharing. Maintaining a similar tone Naobochia MLA Mamun Imdadul Hoque Choudhury said that AIUDF will not just keep nodding. He claimed that Congress cannot win in many seats without their support and will have to fulfill their demands.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora has stated in a public meeting in Dalgaon that Congress won’t share the winning seats with AIUDF in the upcoming election. “We are winning in Dalgaon for the past 3 terms. There is no reason we will leave the seat for someone,” said APCC president Ripun Bora.
