‘Air pollution absolutely under control…’ PCBA rejects Swiss organization’s claim of Guwahati being second most polluted city

GUWAHATI, March 21: The Pollution Control Board of Assam (PCBA) has rejected a report by IQAir, a Swiss-based Air Quality Technology Company, in which it ranked Guwahati as the second most polluted city in the world.

The report titled the “2023 World Air Quality Report- Region & City OM2.5 Ranking”, the PCBA said, is “unscientific and absurd” and that air pollution in the city is “absolutely under control” and much less than that shown in IQAir’s report.

The report has created unnecessary fear among people of Guwahati and the state, claiming that IQAir report’s data source is unknown, while data from the government-approved monitoring stations are available online for public access.

The actual air quality in Guwahati is significantly different from what was portrayed in the IQAir report, the PCBA reassured residents, and urged people not to be misled by unverified data sources.
