Doomdooma: As many as 450 rare Ahom era coins will go under the hammer in Kolkata on Dec 21. A Mumbai-based company named ‘Bombay Auction’ is planning the auction amid a furore back home in Assam with people questioning the move to put them under the hammer without the knowledge of the State Government.
The company has published details of the coins that will be auctioned on December 21 at Haldiram Banquet Hall of Kolkata in its official website. The auction will be held in connection with the Mudra Utsav 2019 to be organised by the Numismatic Society of Calcutta.
The bids for the auction, reports say, have been fixed from Rs 15,000 to Rs 6 lakh.
Meanwhile the Asom Ahom Sabha has urged the State government to initiate necessary steps to bring back the rare coins from ‘Bombay Auction’ before it is auctioned off.
