AASU will get lesser seats than us: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: As the AASU, AJYCP (student organizations) and the artiste community is trying to cobble up a new, regional political party as an alternative to the BJP and Congress in Assam the political arena is getting charged.

The All Assam Students’ Union has made it clear that it does not want a coalition with the Congress and will go it alone to the polls.

Rejecting the offer made by Congress leader and former CM Tarun Gogoi, the students’ body president Dipanka Nath said that it wants to wipe out parties like BJP and Congress from Assam.

On the other hand, senior Congress leader and former CM Tarun Gogoi said that if AASU-led political party goes alone in the 2021 Assam Assembly Polls it would not make much of an impact. “They cannot do it alone and no matter what they do we will get more seats than them. I am giving them good luck. Yes, the people have joined the movement, but when we look at what happened during the AGP days, as to how many seats were won, you will know. The public support is no less this time. According to my calculation and experience this is not possible.”

Reacting to the development, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said that his party is 100 percent with the new political outfit. “We welcome this new party. As this is good news for the state we extend hundred percent support to it,” said Ajmal.
