GUWAHATI: The 17th general conference of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will begin from Wednesday (November 18) at Duliajan in Dibrugarh district. The four-day conference will conclude on November 21. A lot of major developments as well as changes in leadership are expected during this conference.
Making an end of his long association with the influential students’ body, chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya will retire from the AASU at this conference. Incumbent president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi will also leave the students’ organisation as they prepare to enter active politics through recently floated Assam Jatiya parishad (AJP).
“Samujjal da has already announced that he would retire at Duliajan conference. Earlier he wanted to leave the AASU at Dudhnoi and Moran conferences, but the executive committee requested him to remain in the AASU. So, this time the delegation-level-committee will request him the same. But it is his personal decision,” said AASU leader Sankarjyoti Baruah.
