AASU, 30 indigenous bodies take out torch rally against CAA

GUWAHATI: After the Centre notified implementation of the amended Citizenship Act 2019 from January 10, All Assam Student’s Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad along with 30 indigenous bodies took out torch rallies across the state today.

The protesters took to the streets in Guwahati and various parts of Assam chanting anti-CAA slogans. Leading the rally in Guwahati, AASU chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharjya said “It is an insult to the democratic protests in Assam and Northeast. We will not accept CAA at any cost.”

Dr. Bhattacharjya further threatened to intensify the stir against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Meanwhile, torch rallies against the controversial legislation were also taken out in Moran, Kohora and other parts of the state.
