Guwahati: During the weekend, Aamir Khan and Erdogan were among the top trends on Twitter, after the Bollywood actor met the First Lady of Turkey for chitchat on Saturday. This didn’t go down well with the fans, and Khan’s upcoming film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ became one of the top trends on Monday.

On Monday, a large number of Indians have expressed their disappointment with the Khan-Erdogan meeting at a time when the relation between India and Turkey are strained.

Here’s a quick recap of the situation. Everything between India and Turkey was great, but Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan openly criticised India after the clash between the anti- and pro-CAA protesters in New Delhi in February. Right before this happened, Erdogan, who is a devout Muslim, had backed Pakistan on Kashmir after India revoked Article 370, which has been a sensitive issue between the two nations.

While many fans were unhappy with Khan, other urged the people to be prepared to dislike the trailer of the upcoming film when it releases. Some ardent fans even sided with the ‘PK’ actor for meeting up with Mrs Erdogan

According to the official website of Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the First Lady Emine Erdogan received the actor at the presidential residence at the Huber Mansion in Istanbul on Saturday, India’s 74th Independence Day.

The First Lady, alongside three images with the superstar, took to Twitter to confirm that the shooting of Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is expected to wrap up soon in different parts of Turkey.

During the meet, the 55-year-old actor briefed Erdogan about the social responsibility projects he is associated with during the meeting and the first lady congratulated him for addressing social issues in his films, as per the statement on the website.

The production on the film is yet to be finished. According to various reports, the team is currently focused on urgently completing the movie with Kapoor-Khan, who recently announced her pregnancy, before the baby bump starts showing.

‘Secret Superstar’ helmer Advait Chandan is directing the film from a script by actor-writer Atul Kulkarni. The project is backed by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions. The film has music by Pritam with Amitabh Bhattacharya credited for  the lyrics.

Khan, who was last seen in ‘Thugs of Hindostan’, announced the upcoming project on his birthday last year.
