Guwahati: The Mizoram government on Tuesday imposed a seven-day lockdown in Aizawl and 10 other district headquarters in the wake of steep rise in Covid-19 cases in the state. The strict measures were announced to mitigate the chances of further spread of coronavirus infections in Mizoram.
The restrictions came into force at 4 AM on Tuesday and would remain till 4 AM on April 26. The government order did not mention the word “lockdown”. The notification issued by the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department of the Mizoram government on Monday was signed by Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo.
The notification said, “In spite of all measures that have been taken the surge of Covid-19’s second wave in Mizoram has taken a rapid trajectory.”
“The recent spurt of positive cases is alarming for the medical community, it is considered necessary to impose restrictions on people’s movement and activities for a certain duration in order to break the disease transmission chain and to facilitate testing and contact tracing,” read the government order.
However, inter-village movement or intra-state movement is allowed with permission from the concerned Village-Level Task Force (VLTF) or Local-Level Task Force (LLTF).
The government order said that the vehicular movement would be restricted and the existing night curfew from 8:30 pm to 4 am would be enforced more strictly in Aizawl and 10 other district headquarters across Mizoram.
