GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Anant Rai’s residence in Chirang, Assam on Thursday. Shah will visit Satipur village under Dhaligaon police station in the Chirang district to meet Anant Rai for seeking cooperation for the upcoming elections in Assam and West Bengal.
Anant Rai, who is the founder of The Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association will receive Amit Shah as his guest for the day. Anant Rai is known to be an influential leader of the Koch people as well as a person with political influence in Cooch Behar and in seven districts of West Bengal.
According to sources, Amit Shah will meet Anant Rai in view of the upcoming West Bengal and Assam Assembly elections. Rai told the media that Union Minister Amit Shah will have a meal at his home and he will serve him the traditional meal of the Koch people.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Education, Health, Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
The Greater Cooch Behar Association has special influence among 18.5 lakh voters in Assam and 7 districts of West Bengal. According to sources, Anant Rai will be helping the BJP in the upcoming elections in Assam and West Bengal.
The Chirang district administration has already tightened-up the security arrangements for Amit Shah’s arrival and a team of central security forces has already arrived and is reviewing the residence of Anant Rai and the situation in the area as well as the security aspects. The security teams are also conducting aerial surveys of Satipur and its adjoining areas.
