GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam health, finance, education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebrations at Nimaijan in Sivasagar district on Sunday.
Minister Sarma was accorded a grand welcome on his arrival at the venue of Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebrations organised by All Tai Ahom Students’ Union.
Me-Dam-Me-Phi is celebrated by the Tai Ahom community on January 31 every year to pay tributes to their ancestors.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarma said, “The civilisation against which Lachit Borphukan fought that engulfing our society. We have been fighting against such civilisation maintain democratic principles.”
