Assam celebrates Me-Dam-Me-Phi today

GUWAHATI: The Tai Ahom community of Assam has been observing its traditional festival Me-Dam-Me-Phi today by offering tributes to their ancestors.

Me-Dam-Me-Phi is celebrated by the Tai Ahoms on January 31 every year as a mark of respect to their ancestors.

Extending his greetings on the occasion, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote on Twitter, “…..May this festival strengthen the age-old harmony among the people of Assam.”

Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also conveyed his wishes on the occasion of  Me-Dam-Me-Phi.

“On this auspicious day of Me-Dam-Me-Phi, I recall the Pulin-Puthao and extend heartiest wishes to the people of Assam…”Sarma stated in a tweet.
