GUWAHATI: Assam governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has condoled the demise of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday.
“I am deeply hurt by the death of veteran politician and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who served the state as the Chief Minister for three consecutive terms with deep commitment,” Mukhi tweeted.
Gogoi, the longest-serving chief minister of Assam passed away on Monday evening at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) following post-COVID-19 complications.
The veteran leader had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 25 and was admitted to the GMCH the next day. He had recovered from COVID-19 after two months.
On November 2, he was re-admitted to the hospital because of post-COVID complications and was on 100 percent ventilation from Saturday after his health condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, the Assam government has declared a state mourning for three days with effect from November 24 as a mark of respect to the former chief minister.
