GUWAHATI: Kamalpur MLA Satyabrata Kalita has appealed All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya to join the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Amid row over alienation of Bhattacharjya in the AASU, AGP MLA Kalita said that the former should step into the field of politics.
“We welcome his service and activeness. We will welcome him to the AGP,” Kalita said at Baihata on Saturday.
Earlier on Monday, Former state executive of the AASU Simanta Thakuria alleged that AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath has been running autocracy and sidelined chief advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya in the students’ body. Thakuria who has recently resigned from the AASU also criticised the forming of the political party—Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) under the aegis of the AASU.
Thakuria who is an ex-general secretary of the All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) said, “Samujjal Bhattacharjya has been sidelined in the organisation. Dipanka Kumar Nath is running autocracy. The activities of president Nath are autocratic. He is not following the process. He should take opinions of everyone. But Nath is doing according to his whims and fancies.”
