GUWAHATI: The construction work of Assam’s longest flyover began from today at Maligaon in Guwahati. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, public works department (PWD) and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma formally kicked-off the construction of the longest flyover in the state.
The Assam government will construct the 2992-metre-long flyover from Maligaon towards Kamakhya Gate with a diversion from Maligaon towards Pandu. The two-lane flyover will be constructed with a cost of Rs. 420.75 crore from State Owned Priority Development (SOPD) fund 2020-21 within 36 months. It is expected that the flyover will reduce the traffic congestion in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the various developmental projects his government has undertaken since it assumed office in 2016.
On the other hand, minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, “This project is not significant not only for Guwahati and Assam, but also for the entire Northeast. Because Guwahati is the gateway to the Northeast.”
