Guwahati: Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 18 runs in a high-scoring match in which 438 runs were scored by the two sides.
Batting first, Delhi Capitals put up 228/4 — the highest total of the IPL 2020 season so far.
Prithvi Shaw’s 66 was the most decisive contribution in the first half of the innings. However, it was in the last 10 overs — with Shreyas Iyer (88 not out off 38 balls) hitting top gear that DC added 139 runs, crossing the mark for the highest total of the season.
With all KKR bowlers being hit for runs, Andre Russell’s figures of 2/29 stood out. In the chase, Nitish Rana (58) held together the first half of the innings, till Eoin Morgan (44) and Rahul Tripathi (36) smashed a few sixes at the end of the chase to take KKR close.
Anrich Nortje (3/33), who also delivered the killing blow by taking the wicket of Morgan, stood out among DC bowlers.
