GUWAHATI: Senior diplomat Gourangalal Das who hails from Assam’s Barpeta district is set to become India’s next envoy to Taiwan.
According to an ANI report, Das will be new director general of India-Taipei Association. India does not have formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan because of its One-China policy. It has an office in Taipei to carry out diplomatic functions. It operates under the name of India-Taipei Association. Das will replace Sridharan Madhusudhanan. A formal announcement is expected to be made soon.
Gourangalal Das is currently serving as the joint secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
Das belongs to the 1999 batch of the Indian Foreign Service. He topped High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in 1991 from Barpeta Government HS School. He had also grabbed the state-second position in the Higher Secondary examinations in 1993 from Cotton College.
Das graduated in Economics from St. Stephen’s College Delhi. He did his Master’s in Economics from Delhi School of Economics.
