Guwahati: As four positive COVID-19 cases were detected in Guwahati on Thursday night, the state government on Friday declared B Borooah Cancer Institute as one of the containment zones in the city.
All services in B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) will remain closed till May 10, informed the authority of the hospital. The move came after a 16-year-old girl died of COVID-19 on Thursday.
Patients who are already admitted in the hospital will keep receiving adequate treatment and new patients won’t be admitted till Monday. This was informed by the Director of B Borooah Cancer Institute Dr. Amal Kataki.
“Keeping in view of the health conditions of the patients we have started the emergency service from today. The patients, who were on chemotherapy and other treatment will start receiving again from Monday. But as everybody knows that B. B Borooah Cancer Institute’s residential campus has been declared as a containment zone, we will not be able to start the OPD and admit new patients. Due to this, we are left with a very small number of workforce in the hospital”, informed Dr. Amal Kataki, Director of B Borooah Cancer Institute.
He further added, “At present, 78 patients aren’t receiving proper treatment and we would like to treat them first.”
The swab of 16 year-old-girl who died of COVID-19 on Thursday night tested positive after her death. She was staying with her mother, grandmother and aunt at Harijan Colony inside the hospital campus and soon after her death, the hospital was closed for all services.
Chaos erupted amongst cancer patients who came for treatment in the hospital on Friday as no further treatment will be done on the premises till May 10.
The boundary of the containment zone of the residential area of Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute is: North – Arjya Bidyapith College Field, South – LGB Chest Hospital Complex, East – plot belongs to Fishery Department, West – Hospital building of Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Hospital.
