GUWAHATI: Assam’s 45th COVID-19 patient who tested positive at Silchar in Cachar district on Wednesday is a dreaded criminal against whom there are several cases registered in different police stations in Assam. The man Faridul Islam who hails from Kochgaon in Dhekiajuli area of Sonitpur is a most wanted car lifter.
The officer-in-charge of Thelamara Police Station informed News Live that a case of car lifting was registered against Faridul around 8 months ago. There are several cases registered against him at Kaliabor, Geetanagar, Nagaon, Changsari and different other police stations. The COVID-19 patient was one of the most wanter criminals for Assam Police.
“Faridul is a dreaded car-lifter. He was involved in hijacking cars. We also arrested him. His wife informed us that he went to Ajmer before lockdown,” said the police officer.
Meanwhile, after his return to Assam by a bus on Wednesday, Faridul went to Silchar to evade arrest in Sonitpur. However, the man who was suffering from cough and fever tested COVID-19 positive at Silchar under southern Assam’s Cachar district. There were 45 pilgrims on the bus with him.
The local people of the native village of Faridul also told media persons that Faridul was involved in many criminal activities.
On the other hand, the wife and two children of Faridul have been quarantined at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.
“They don’t have symptoms. But we have quarantined them as a precautionary measure,” said a health department official.
