Next one week crucial for Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma

SHILLONG: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma informed that 99 percent of samples from the state have tested negative for COVID-19 so far. He further stated that the next one week is going to be crucial for the State. Speaking to media persons after a review meeting, CM Sangma said that COVID-19 situation in Meghalaya, India and the world is something that one can never take for granted.

“In the last one week in Meghalaya we saw unprecedented situation, it was really a big challenge. Six thousand secondary contacts, two thousand primary contacts and massive quarantine took place. But 90 percent tests we conducted have come out as negative. That’s a very positive sign. But testing will be continued, retesting in certain cases will also be done,” said CM Sangma.

The Meghalaya chief minister also said that the spread of COVID-19 has been limited and contained in Meghalaya.

“Challenge for Meghalaya or the country as a whole is really to see how to balance between the lockdown containment and livelihood economy,” Sangma added.

On the other hand, Meghalaya health minister Al Hek said that new ambulances will be roled out soon which were purchased under chief minister relief fund. The new ambulances will attend COVID-19 patients.
