GUWAHATI: After prime minister Narendra Modi indicated that lockdown may have to stay in place beyond April 14 in the view of COVID19 situation in India, several people from different walks of life in Assam have also expressed their views on possible extension of lockdown.
“Though we have been facing problems because of lockdown but it is needed for our country. If it ends soon, people will gather again which will create danger,” said a man from Biswanath.
“We want lockdown to be extended beyond April 14. Because we have seen in many places people are not obeying lockdown rules. Situation will be uncontrollable if the lockdown is over at this point of time,” said another man.
On the other hand, a woman from a Biswanath village said, “In this situation lockdown is necessary for the welfare of public. If lockdown is relaxed, again people from outside the state will come and pose danger to public health.”
“If the government do not extend the 21-day lockdown, people will again throng in the market. I think this is not a right time for such congregation. So lockdown should be extended,” said a resident of Biswanath area.
