GUWAHATI: Assam government has rescued around 350 people including women from violence-hit Meghalaya. The rescued people, mostly from Assam’s Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts were working as labourers in Ichamati area in Meghalaya. The labourers heaved a sigh of relief after they had reached Jorabat outpost in Assam today.
“Situation is very tense there. We didn’t get food for last 5-6 days. We survived only on water,” said a man who had faced harrowing time during the curfew.
Meanwhile, Bilasipara (East) MLA Ashok Kumar Singhi who was a part of the state government’s team said, “Assam government has acted promptly. They were in great distress there. We will rescue everyone who has been stuck up in Meghalaya.”
Another man from Sapatgram area in Dhurbi district said, “I would like to thank the government of Assam for helping us. We didn’t get any food or assistance there.”
