Assam: Congress-AIUDF may project ‘joint opposition candidate’ for 3rd Rajya Sabha seat

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: For the third Rajya Sabha seat from Assam, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress may jointly place a candidate. The Rajya Sabha election in Assam will be held on 26th March.

According to sources the strategy is to stop the BJP-led coalition comprising of AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) and BPF (Bodoland People’s Front) to get the third seat.

The opposition parties are coming together to give a fight to the BJP coalition as they have the numbers.

Comments from Congress leader and member of parliament, Abdul Khaleque and AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam indicate that the opposition parties are coming together to fight for the third seat.

“All anti-BJP forces should come together. If we can project an educationist or a good social worker with strong anti-CAA stand it would be the right thing. This is what the time demands,” said Rafiqul Islam of AIUDF.

“The opposition has the numbers. And since we have the numbers we should move ahead to get the seat,” said Abdul Khalaque, Congress MP from Barpeta.
