GUWAHATI: “When they will bring clause six, there will be no job and security for Bengalis. Bengali’s language will be snatched away,” said former Lok Sabha MP and All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev at a meeting in Karimganj.

In her provocative speech, the former Congress MP said that all the rights of Bengalis in Assam would be abdicated after the implementation of clause six of the Assam Accord.

Dev further stated that Bengalis would be sent to detention camps under the Citizenship Amendment Act.

“After filing the form you have to show documents from Bangladesh. If you can’t produce documents, you will be directly sent to detention camps. Even new detention centres are coming up,” she added.

Meanwhile, All Assam Students’ Union general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi slammed Congress leader Sushmita Dev for her instigating remarks, “She has reflected double-standard of Congress. They want to take credit for signing the Assam Accord. On the other hand, they are now opposing constitutional rights under the Assam Accord.”
