GUWAHATI: Sensation prevailed at Sorbhog in Barpeta district after Deka Sattradhikar of historic Moinbari Sattra received a letter with death threat.
The letter sent by one Jeherul Islam on behalf of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) threatens to kill Deka Sattradhikar Apurba Adhikary, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah.
“We received the letter at the entrance of our residence on January 5. We have filed an FIR at Sorbhog police station after receiving the letter from one Jeherul Islam on behalf of Assam unit of JMB. The letter termed us as enemies of Islam and threatened with dire consequences. It also asked me not to disclose the letter,” said Deka Sattradhikar Apurba Adhikary.
“The historic Moinbari Sattra was shifted to Sorbhog from Moinabari owing to severe aggression. We faced a lot of harassment there. Even a girl of our family was kidnapped and raped by miscreants” Adhikary added.
“Police is looking into the matter. I hope they will take appropriate action,” said another member of the Sattradhikar family.
