Guwahati violence: IIT Prof. grilled by NIA for five hours

GUWAHATI: Professor Arupjyoti Saikia who teaches History at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati was grilled by National Investigation Agency today. Prof. Saikia was interrogated for nearly five hours at NIA branch office in Sonapur area of Guwahati.

On Saturday, NIA officials quizzed him for more than four hours in connection with Guwahati violence on December 11. Saikia was interrogated for his role in inciting violence during the anti-CAA agitation in Guwahati.

“Today again a section 160 CrPC notice was issued to him. He was interrogated from 11 AM to 4 PM,” said advocate representing IIT professor Arupjyoti Saikia.

Assam Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had indicated in his earlier press conference that a person working in a central government organisation was directly involved in the violent anti-CAA protests in Guwahati. Without naming anybody Dr. Sarma had stated that there was electronic evidence that a leading academician from Assam was trying to orchestrate the burning of Assam Secretariat at Dispur capital complex.
