Guwahati markets ready to add flavour to Bhogali

GUWAHATI: As Magh bihu is around the corner, markets in Guwahati have become flooded with Bhogali edibles. Like every year, Bhogali melas are being held in different parts of the city where food and other items for Magh bihu celebration have been made available.

Sellers from different parts of the state have put their stalls at Bhogali mela at Lakhidhar Boah Kshetra. The vendors as well as self-help group members are selling curd, cream, ladu-pitha and other traditional edibles to meet the demands of the city customers.

However, according to some customers, bihu markets in Guwahati have witnessed a price rise this time compared to previous year. Flattened rice is sold at minimum Rs. 100 a kg, kumol chawl is at Rs. 100, Chunga chawl at Rs. 150-250 per kg, hurum is sold at Rs. 500 a kg, curd Rs. 150 for every kg narikol ladu-muri ladu Rs. 50 per packet is sold at the markets of Guwahati.

On the other hand, businessmen are also getting their supplies of fish and meat from different parts of the state. They are stocking local fishes to meet the demands of the customers on the day of Uruka. The prices of fish and meat are also likely to increase. Meanwhile, some unscrupulous businessmen are allegedly trying their best to charge unreasonably from the customers during the bihu festivity.
