Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the case of the Pakistani woman married to a man from Tinsukia has been referred to the Central Government

A Pakistani woman who is married to a man in Tinsukia, Assam, is the one and only person from Pakistan who is presently in the State while a decision on whether she will also be sent back to Pakistan will be taken by the central government after her case was referred to New Delhi by Dispur, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated.

The Pakistani national named Rabia Ayush had entered into wedlock with a man from Tinsukia in 2013 and came to Assam in 2022.

Rabia lives with her husband and his family at Rangalaya Road in Tinsukia and the couple earns their livelihood running a small shop in Tinsukia town.

Although she has not acquired Indian citizenship and continues to remain a Pakistani citizen, she has applied for long-term visa.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam government has written to the Centre seeking a clarification on her case and whether she needs to be sent back following the revocation of visas issued to Pakistani nations as part of the crackdown launched after the Pahalgam terror attack.

“We have only one Pakistani citizen in Tinsukia district. She is married to a local family. She has applied for long-term visa. We have requested the Government of India to clarify whether she needs to be sent back or not,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma said after inaugurating two newly-built flyovers in Dibrugarh on Sunday.
